In 2019, the Offender Database reported that a father and son from Littleport, Cambridgeshire, were sentenced for the “reprehensible” possession and distribution of thousands of indecent images of children and extreme pornography. On Thursday, 9 May 2019, Adam Strawson, then 54, and Tymon Strawson, then 35, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court to face justice for their “vile” digital activities.
The investigation established that Cambridgeshire Constabulary received intelligence indicating that illicit material was being shared from an IP address linked to their home in Ely Road. During a search warrant executed on 12 June 2018, officers seized a large number of electronic devices. Tymon Strawson became agitated and attempted to leave for work, but a search of his person uncovered a mobile phone containing “serious” abuse material. The prosecution reported that both men used social media to engage in inappropriate conversations with other paedophiles and to distribute images of children.
Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail
The court reported that Adam Strawson possessed 2,871 indecent or prohibited images of children, including 280 Category A images, and 128 extreme pornographic images involving animals. Tymon Strawson was found with 530 images and 28 videos, of which a high proportion—107 images and 24 videos—were the most “serious” Category A. The judge noted that the proactive distribution of these “vile” materials made the case particularly “reprehensible.”
The judge noted that while custodial sentences were warranted, both terms were suspended. Adam Strawson received eight months suspended for 18 months, while Tymon Strawson received 18 months suspended for two years. The prosecution emphasised that the disparity in sentencing reflected the fact that Tymon faced nine counts of distribution, compared to Adam’s single count, despite Adam possessing a larger volume of material. For their crimes in Littleport, the court determined that long-term monitoring via Sexual Harm Prevention Orders (SHPOs) was essential to protect the public.
Sentences and Statutory Requirements
For their crimes in England, the defendants received the following at Cambridge Crown Court:
- Adam Strawson: Eight months in prison (suspended for 18 months), 120 hours of unpaid work, and a 10-year SHPO.
- Tymon Strawson: 18 months in prison (suspended for two years), 200 hours of unpaid work, and a 15-year SHPO.
- Sex Offenders Register: Both men were ordered to sign the register for the duration of their orders.
- Convictions: Admitted to making, possessing, and distributing indecent images and prohibited content.
Monitoring and Public Protection
The Strawsons are managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Cambridgeshire Constabulary and the Probation Service. Due to the “serious” nature of their coordinated distribution and the “vile” extreme pornography found, their management in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, is subject to oversight by the Public Protection Unit.
As members of the Sex Offenders Register, both men must comply with mandatory notification requirements regarding their residence in Ely Road, Littleport. Authorities state that their SHPOs are “serious” tools that restrict their internet usage and prevent them from contacting other known offenders. Any breach of their registration conditions, their SHPOs, or their suspended sentence terms will result in their immediate arrest and return to Cambridge Crown Court.
