In 2022, Abel Mahari, the Lambeth Sex Offender, was imprisoned for sexually assaulting his neighbour while she slept in her residence in South London.

The Metropolitan Police said that Abel Mahari, 38, unlawfully entered a residence in Lambeth on 5 September of the previous year and assaulted the woman.

After CCTV and forensic evidence linked him to the crime scene, he was apprehended.

At Inner London Crown Court, Abel Mahari was convicted of sexual assault by touching and sentenced to four years and three months in prison.

Following the sentencing, the victim remarked: “The intrusion of an individual into your home during the night and engaging in such intimate contact is an occurrence one believes will never transpire.”

“My residence is my refuge; I felt secure there, and he has deprived me of that.”

She stated, “Since this assault, I have been reluctant to venture outdoors.” I sought to avoid unwanted attention from others, as I did not feel secure in an exposed environment.

“My confidence has only begun to improve in the past few weeks, allowing me to feel somewhat more at ease with going outside and engaging in life.”

Detective Sergeant Will Wigzell stated that it was “an exceedingly traumatic incident for the victim, who had been dedicated to the investigation.”

He urged any victims of sexual assault to reach out to law enforcement.
