Umair Iqbal (28/11/1987), residing on Leicester Road, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, a private tutor of the Quran and mathematics, was convicted of 29 out of 30 charges of sexual abuse involving five victims aged between eight and eighteen years.

The acts, including the sexual assault of a child, occurred across a decade from 2010 to 2020, during which Umair Iqbal frequently visited the residences of the young women and girls to conduct his scheduled lessons.

Investigations against Umair Iqbal commenced in October 2020 following the initial report of sexual assault made to GMP by a victim aged 15 at that time.

After years of attributing the abuse to her own shortcomings, the victim had the fortitude to notify her family and subsequently the authorities.

A further inquiry into Umair Iqbal’s conduct by Rochdale’s multi-agency safeguarding team, previously referred to as the Sunrise Team, promptly disclosed the magnitude of his abusive behaviour, uncovering an additional four victims, including one who had been victimised since the age of eight.
