Stephen Benyon, the Caldicot Sex Offender, has been convicted after a series of indecent exposure offences in Theale, resulting from a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation.
Stephen Benyon, 49, of Sandy Lane, Caldicot, appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 24 October, where he entered a guilty plea to three counts of indecent exposure and one public order offence.
Stephen Benyon is scheduled to be sentenced at the same court on Wednesday, December 17.
At approximately 10:10 PM on April 16, 2024, a 40-year-old woman was traversing an overbridge near Theale railway station when she encountered a male who was indecently exposing himself and engaging in masturbation while observing her.
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, officers got an additional allegation regarding a male, Stephen Benyon, who indecently exposed himself to a woman at Theale station and commenced masturbating.
Detectives conducted a comprehensive investigation, including undercover patrols, analysing CCTV footage, and conducting witness interviews.
Following the incident in September, they issued a CCTV appeal through the media.
The appeal led to multiple individuals contacting the police, all of whom were subsequently excluded from the investigation.
The case was closed, awaiting additional investigative opportunities.
On Thursday, 28 August 2025, at approximately 9:15 PM, a 16-year-old girl was at Theale railway station when a man approached her, exposed himself, and began masturbating.
At approximately 10:10 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the same victim from the September 2024 incident informed the police that she had reencountered the man, who made remarks that caused her grief.
Detectives initiated a new investigation, conducting witness interviews and CCTV enquiries, as well as nightly undercover operations.
Officers conducted investigations at nearby pubs, presenting the CCTV image of the suspect to staff and patrons to ascertain whether anyone could identify him.
Stephen Benyon was apprehended on Wednesday, 22 October, when personnel at a tavern on Church Street identified him and notified law enforcement.
Officers arrived at the pub in an unmarked vehicle and arrested Stephen Benyon as he was drinking in the beer garden.
