In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Paul Lewis, then 33, of Lower Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court.
Paul Lewis was jailed for ten years after pleading guilty to seven offences involving six children aged between eight and eleven. The court heard that Paul Lewis exploited his position as a worker in a sweetshop in the Rossington area of Doncaster to target vulnerable youngsters, offering them free sweets in exchange for exposing themselves or engaging in sexual activity.
The investigation was launched in November 2018 after five children courageously reported being approached by Paul Lewis. Following his arrest, a forensic search of his home and electronic devices uncovered an indecent video on his phone. Further admissions made by Paul Lewis during police interviews led officers to identify a sixth victim, resulting in additional charges being brought against him.
The charges against Paul Lewis included three counts of inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and outraging public decency. He was also convicted of possessing an indecent photograph of a child with the intent to distribute and breaching a pre-existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order, proving he was already a known risk to the community at the time of these new offences.
At a pre-trial hearing on December 5, 2018, the crimes that occurred between July and October of that year were discussed. Alongside his ten-year prison sentence, Paul Lewis was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, with the judge emphasising the predatory nature of his actions in using a position of trust and simple bribes to manipulate young children.
