In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Malik Shahzad, 46, of Berkeley Street, Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the “vicious” and “vile” rape and false imprisonment of a woman. Shahzad appeared at Grimsby Crown Court today, Friday 16 January 2026, for sentencing after a jury found him guilty following a trial that concluded in November 2025.

The investigation by Humberside Police began on 7 July 2021, when a woman reported that she had been trapped inside an address in Scunthorpe and “callously” raped for several hours. Officers immediately deployed to the Berkeley Street property and arrested Shahzad. The subsequent “serious” investigation highlighted the “horrendous” level of violence the victim endured throughout the “prolonged ordeal.”

“Vicious” Assault and False Imprisonment
The court heard that the victim repeatedly tried to leave the address, but Shahzad “vilely” followed her, grabbed her by the neck, and pinned her down. When she attempted to use her mobile phone to call for help, Shahzad “dishonestly” grabbed the device and threw it to prevent her from alerting the authorities.

Despite the “serious” evidence against him, Shahzad “callously” denied all allegations during his police interviews and trial, claiming the encounter was consensual and that the victim was lying. Detective Constable Becky McInnis emphasised that Shahzad is a “violent rapist” and praised the victim’s bravery in coming forward to ensure this “exploitative predator” was brought to justice.

Life-Long Restrictions and Monitoring
For his “vicious” crimes, Malik Shahzad was:

  • Sentenced to 16 years in prison.
  • Handed a Restraining Order for life.
  • Ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Upon his eventual release, Shahzad will be managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Humberside Police. This ensures his behaviour and residency in Scunthorpe, Grimsby, and the wider North Lincolnshire area are strictly monitored. Any future “vile” conduct or breach of his life-long restraining order will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
