A convicted Wantage Paedophile, Kelvin Fielding, has received a sentence exceeding six years following police characterisation of his conduct as ‘shocking.’

Kelvin Fielding, residing on Post Office Lane in Wantage, spoke with an account in November 2022 regarding a fictional nine-year-old girl, portrayed as the step-daughter of an undercover officer.

Kelvin Fielding was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison for the offences, which included one count of exposure, one count of assaulting a police officer, the creation of indecent photos of children, and the distribution of indecent images of children.

Public protection manager PC Richard Farnell stated: “The investigation into Kelvin Fielding was intricate, involving multiple departments within the PVP (Protecting Vulnerable People) framework, as well as partner agencies and various police forces to ensure his prosecution.”

“He assaulted and exposed himself to colleagues, and our pursuit of justice was not derailed by this shocking behaviour, and his sentence reflects this and the seriousness of his offences.”

Oxford Crown Court previously heard the fake online account was set up by the officer, and that Kelvin Fielding, 65, took the bait and they started exchanging messages.

The officer posed as a 49-year-old man who was abusing his nine-year-old step-daughter.

Kelvin Fielding was said to have told the undercover officer that girls in school uniforms were a ‘kink of his’.

They arranged to meet in Bedford, but Kelvin Fielding got ‘spooked’ and cancelled.

In December 2023, he was found to have a number of indecent images on his devices, the court heard.

Four in category A, 14 in category B and 105 in category C. He was also found to have been in possession of an extreme pornographic video and distributed two category C images of children.

In January 2024, officers attended his address to carry out checks on his electronic devices.

He put his arms around one of the officers, pinning her arms to her side and touching her bra strap.

On the same occasion, he was told he was being arrested and to change his shorts and he exposed himself.

Judge Michael Gledhill KC said: “The tragedy is you have let those who love you down by your appalling behaviour.

“An undercover officer set up a profile to coax people like you. You fell hook, line and sinker.

“What followed were comments, photos and planning about what you wanted to do with this girl.

“You believed she existed and that you could sexually abuse her.”

The Judge added: “If that wasn’t enough, in January 2024, officers attended your home to check your devices, and your behaviour was deplorable.”

As well as the prison sentence, Kelvin Fielding was handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
