In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Ian Welbourn, the Scawby Paedophile Child Molester, a former RAF serviceman, exhibited pornographic DVDs to a young girl and instructed her to imitate the actions of the performers to become “like a movie star.”

He subsequently ignited a mattress and his own garments in the mental health facility where he resided, resulting in a nurse losing vision in one eye due to poisonous fumes.

Ian Welbourn, then 48, of Kirton Road, Scawby, Brigg, North Lincolnshire, confessed to 13 sexual offences, including rape, assault by penetration, and the creation of obscene photos of minors. They occurred in the Scunthorpe region.

Ian Welbourn also confessed to arson, demonstrating recklessness about the potential endangerment of life, during the proceedings of his trial for sexual offences.

He has received an 18-year sentence, comprising 16 years for the sexual crimes and an additional two years for the arson charge.

Craig Lowe, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Ian Welbourn abused the girl for about five years but told her not to tell anyone because “everybody would hate her”.

He played a pornographic DVD in front of her and copied what the stars of it were doing.

He told her, “If you copy what the people are doing, it will make you just like a movie star.”

The girl was subjected to sexual abuse and later said, “I just wanted it to be over.”

Ian Welbourn will be on an extended licence for a year after his release from prison and will have to register as a sex offender for life.
