Two Birmingham Rapist bouncers, Hassan Bockarie and Iyoseph Derry, employed at a nightclub in Wolverhampton, have been sentenced to imprisonment for rape.

Hassan Bockarie, a resident of Erdington in Birmingham, and Iyoseph Derry, who has no permanent abode, received a combined term of nearly 20 years in jail for exploiting a woman in her twenties during her night out.

In December 2018, the woman consumed alcohol at a workplace Christmas party and thereafter visited a nightclub, where Hassan Bockarie and Iyoseph Derry were employed as doormen.

Hassan Bockarie and Iyoseph Derry approached the woman, who was accompanied by another female, after observing her inebriated state, purchased further alcoholic beverages for her, and subsequently proposed to transport both women home shortly after 4 a.m. the next morning.

The women entrusted their safety to the bouncers.

Hassan Bockarie and Iyoseph Derry transported one woman to her residence, but instead of ensuring the other woman’s safe return home, they drove her to a flat in Birmingham and raped her.

Hassan Bockarie and Iyoseph Derry refuted the charges; however, following three years of investigative efforts, officers from the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit successfully demonstrated their misconduct and the exploitation of their position of trust.

Hassan Bockarie first refuted any acquaintance with the women, but subsequent intelligence assessments and forensic analysis, including DNA evidence connecting him to the crime, prompted him to alter his narrative.

Hassan Bockarie, 34, of High Street, Erdington, was convicted of rape and sentenced to eight and a half years’ imprisonment at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, February 4.

Iyoseph Derry, 33, with no permanent address, was convicted of rape and aiding and abetting rape during a trial, resulting in a 10-year prison sentence.
