In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Christopher Jones, then 46, of William Booth House, Hull, Kingston Upon Hull, East Yorkshire, was sentenced to two years in prison at Hull Crown Court. Jones, a serial sex offender with a “vast history” of targeting young boys, was found to have persistently breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The court heard that he repeatedly approached and spoke to an 11-year-old boy in a city centre café and later attempted to contact the child through Facebook, requesting to play games and initiating video calls.

The investigation began after the boy’s mother became alarmed by a Facebook account in Jones’ name “waving” at her son. During subsequent trips to the café, she and a friend observed Christopher Jones staring at the boy “almost constantly.” Police were able to track Jones’ movements and verify he was at the café during the times the boy was present by using data from a “buddy tag” he was required to wear as part of his probation. Under questioning, Jones admitted to six separate contacts with the child, discussing topics like Star Wars and football in a vile attempt to build rapport.

Christopher Jones has a horrific criminal record that dates back to 1999, involving indecent assaults on boys as young as 13. His SHPO was initially issued in 2009 and extended indefinitely in 2012 after he was caught waiting in public toilets to target young boys. Despite the strict terms of his order, which prohibited any contact with children under 16, Jones claimed he believed he could speak to them if they were supervised—an excuse the prosecution and the judge flatly rejected as a serious and calculated breach.

Recorder Taryn Hunter described Jones’ history as “more than troubling” and noted a pre-sentence report that classified him as being at “very high risk” of reoffending. The report revealed disturbing admissions that Jones had never had an adult relationship and maintained a sexual interest in children. As a result of this persistent breach, Christopher Jones was sentenced to two years in jail. He remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life and continues to be managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Humberside Police in Hull, East Yorkshire.
